Why are Reality Shows so addictive?

If you, like me, are embarrassed to admit your addiction to lame and trashy reality shows – then you found the right video. Because you’re not alone.

I think reality shows are an ultimate form of escapism where we get to peek into other people’s lives and forget about our own problems for a while. They are like a soap opera on steroids, with real people as the stars of the show, serving a buffet for our brains.

There’s drama, romance, competition, with a side of cheesy one-liners and cringey moments. I mean, where else can you find a grown adult throwing a tantrum.

But what is it about these shows that keeps us coming back for more?

The drama queen within us — yes, all of us!

Let’s face it, there’s a little drama queen lurking inside all of us, just waiting to be unleashed. Be honest, how many of you have said “my life should be a reality show”.

Reality shows are a breeding ground for conflict, tension, and unexpected twists. Whether it’s a heated argument between contestants, conflict between friends or a shocking elimination, these moments of high-stakes drama get you hooked.

Another reason is that they’ve become even bigger now because they serve a Communal Experience

One of the most intriguing aspects of reality TV is its ability to bring people together… even if it’s to discuss the most ridiculous things like whether someone looks like Meghan Fox???

It’s downright ridiculous… and that’s precisely why we love it!

Whether its watching grown adults compete in bizarre challenges or witnessing the extravagant lifestyles of the rich and famous, reality shows never fail to deliver a healthy dose of absurdity. That probably explains another reason for the addiction…

The Underdog Story

Sometimes, it’s none of the above but simply our primal emotions to celebrate an underdog story. We root for the scrappy contestant who defies the odds, overcomes obstacles, and ultimately emerges victorious.

Reality shows are a guilty pleasure like junk food for the soul – you know it’s bad for you and your brain cells, but its hard to not binge on it.

What are you binging on these days?

Founder of Popcorn Pixel, I was born and raised in Kuwait, but I never let geography come in the way of my love for Bollywood. I love films as well as the whole process of filmmaking and entertainment, which is why I started Popcorn Pixel in 2018 with the aim to bring together cinema-enthusiasts like me. Besides films, I love to write fiction, try new cuisines and dream about learning skydiving and horse-riding (hopefully I'll get around to it someday) !!
