Actress Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur too recently commenced their shoot for the period drama.

Kalank is already the most talked about films of the year for it’s enormous cast and the collaboration between the biggest production houses, Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Since all the lead actors are juggling various projects, a source revealed “the makers are on a tight schedule, trying to wrap up as soon as possible.”

Along with Kalank, Dutt has also began work on his home production Prasthanam, co-starring Manisha Koirala, Ali Fazal and Amyra Dastur.

#TrailerTalk – The “next level” trailer of ‘Race 3’ is full of action

The makers of Race 3 launched a new trailer on the eve of the movie’s release. This promo is specifically titled Race 3 Action Trailer, and as the name suggests, it’s two minutes of action-packed sequences.

Once again, the trailer open with Salman Khan talking about parivaar (family), followed by several takes of fancy vehicles, i.e. Hummers, helicopters and motorcycles.

Khan is front and centre of the trailer that’s filled with a barrage of destructive sequences. Anil Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez are the only other actors in an ensemble cast of six to get some screen space.

It is an interesting strategy to release a new trailer this late in the game. Perhaps it is targeted towards die-hard “Sallu” fans who await Eid as much as they await his films.

While it’s a bold move to release a promo on the eve of the film’s release, this trailer fails to build any intrigue. It’s an overdose of action which seems meaningless and violent.

What has Sushant Singh Rajput been up to?

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput has his hands full with numerous films until next year, but it’s not all that’s occupying his time lately.

The Raabta actor recently announced his entrepreneurial debut – Innsaei Ventures Pvt Ltd.

Derived from an ancient Icelandic term for ‘intuition,’ the venture will focus on emerging technologies that are disrupting the socio-economics as well as developmental transformations. The primary concentration will be on augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and 3D Printing.

Talking to a publication, Rajput said that Innsaei will operate “in the field of content and communications, health and holistic wellness, education and learning, and business incubation.”

He further commented on his collaboration with the government saying, “I know that what I will say can be reinterpreted differently, which also should happen. If I am actually supporting non-linear dynamics, different reinterpretations will only add up to the complexity of the entire system, making it more efficient in the process. We all know that Google Loon would give Internet at every square inch on this planet by 2021. Then you have to prepare for those things with the government. The thing that is missing is mapping, the values, the meaning, which is like Yin and Yang.”

Rajput’s business partner and Co-Founder of Innsaei Ventures Pvt Ltd, Varun Mathur shared his excitement on the new venture saying “It is rare to have a movie star with this kind of depth of knowledge across such a diverse set of areas. Innsaei is the embodiment of Sushant’s thought leadership.”

Fans may have noticed Rajput’s social-media cleanse and makeover over the last few weeks. The recent updates on the actor’s Instagram are about his “self musing,” and enthusiasm to sharpen his skills not just in acting, but life in general. One of the most unique posts (which has now been deleted) was of him writing a sentence with both hands simultaneously. A task that requires a trained mind and practice; he seems to have mastered the skill.

Besides actively meeting like-minded people to discuss cross-pollination of diverse ideas, Rajput has been quite busy juggling various film projects as well.

His next film titled Drive is an action comedy directed by Tarun Mansukhani. He will also be seen in an Abhishek Kapoor directorial Kedarnath, a film based on the 2013 Uttarakhand floods, followed by crime movie Sonchiriya by Abhishek Chaubey.

#TrailerTalk – “Dhadak” has the hearts beating

The much-awaited trailer finally premiered today. Dhadak’s trailer launch felt like a countdown to a big reveal, with non-stop promotions across mediums.

It is the Hindi adaptation of the Marathi film Sairat (2016), a romantic drama about innocence and forbidden love.

Since Sairat received tremendous critical acclaim, the expectations from Dhadak are rather high. Moreover, the film is a launch pad for two newcomers – Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Katter (also referred to as “star kids,” though Katter is a “star brother” of actor Shahid Kapoor), so the stakes are even higher.

The trailer opens with a view of Rajasthan and a conversation between the lead actors talking about making a home, followed by introductory shots of Kapoor and Katter.

Still from Dhadak

Katter’s character, Madhukar appears to be a cool and cheerful lad who is mesmerized by Parthavi, played by Kapoor who seems to be a sassy strong-willed girl enjoying the attention.

Set in Rajasthan, the cast has kept it authentic by conversing in the local dialect. The makers have also included a Hinglish version of the popular Rajasthani folk song “Padhaaro Maare Des,” proving the film has all the makings of a Dharma banner.

The trailer shows shades of young romance, drama, politics, and violence. There are also noticeable similarities between the duo’s relationship and that of Badri and Vaidehi of Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. The hero finds cute ways to woo the lady, and the heroine enjoys challenging him. Both films are produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Shashank Khaitan.

PS. You can’t help but compare Kapoor Jr. to her mother, late actor Sridevi. There’s definitely a significant resemblance and as a fan you miss seeing Sridevi on camera.

Trailer Rating:  (3 popcorns)
The trailer shows a predictable story of young romance which is unacceptable by society. However, it is the performance by the debutants that makes it interesting. Ishaan Katter is effortless on camera; he’s not a manly man nor is he a boy-ish boy, but he’s charming in his own way. Janhvi Kapoor is a pleasant surprise and brings a certain freshness on screen.

Are short films the next big thing?

Short films are loosely defined as films that are shorter in length as compared to feature films. They are typically made on a low to no budget by independent filmmakers with a purpose of gaining recognition at film festivals. But short films certainly aren’t any lesser form of a great cinematic experience.

Artists in India always strive to make to the big screen – the movies. With immense competition within the industry, it is imperative that actors widen their reach and expand their mediums of expression.

Actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Radhika Apte, Manoj Bajpayee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Tisca Chopra, and Kalki Koechlin are few popular names in the “short films” circuit. They have appeared in various award-winning short films that have been widely recognized.

Perhaps this is the reason why other established Bollywood actors are now going digital and experimenting with content beyond mainstream cinema.

Richa Chadda

Richa Chadda, though not new to digital or short format, will star in a first-of-its-kind short film inspired by a play. Titled The Life in Telling, it will have three stories with a common thread, starring Richa Chadda as the lead along with Vinay Pathak.

Imran Khan

Actor Imran Khan too will try his hand at this format, but as a director. According to sources, the film is still in initial stages, and Khan will finalize casting in the coming weeks.

Still from teaser of “The Job”

Kalki Koechlin will be seen in another short film titled The Job, produced by Flying Dreams Entertainment. Though not much is revealed about the film, it appears to be about job pressures.

First look of “Cakewalk”

Recently, Esha Deol also announced her comeback to acting with a short film titled Cakewalk. The film revolves around the professional and personal journey of women in the Indian society.

(L-R) Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher

Superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher too will be seen in short formats soon, produced in collaboration with the Indian Railways. The actors will make their appearance in short films covering topics such as trespassing on railway tracks and hygiene on the platforms to create awareness about railway safety measures.

Taapsee Pannu made her short film debut with Nitishastra, a family drama directed by Kapil Verma and presented on the digital platform by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films. The film released on June 4, 2018 and is available on Youtube. You can watch the trailer here:

Bollywood is certainly evolving. Just like people outside the film world, actors too are sprucing up their resumes with diverse work-experience that shows growth and potential.

There’s no stopping Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor Khan is one of the strongest actresses in B-town and she is on fire!!

She is breaking all stereotypes and changing the norms in the industry. Kareena not only returned to work almost immediately post her pregnancy, but she’s back to rule and maintain her spot as a A-list celebrity.

Still from Veere Di Wedding

With several offers flooded her way post Veere Di Wedding, she has allegedly accepted two big projects.

One of them will be Karan Johar’s new venture where Kareena will star opposite Akshay Kumar after nine years. Directed by Raj Mehta, the film will be a unique take of love and relationships, revolving around a married couple who is trying to have a baby. The film will go on floors in November, as soon as Kumar wraps up shooting for Housefull 4.

Another film in her kitty is Salute, a biopic on Rakesh Sharma directed by Mahesh Mathai. The film will kick start in September 2018. The titular role will be essayed by Shah Rukh Khan, as the first Indian man to travel into space. The duo was last seen in Ra.One in 2011.

Though there haven’t been official announcements made, both films are scheduled for release in 2019.

Esha Deol is ready for a ‘Cakewalk’ comeback

After taking a long hiatus from the silver screen, Esha Deol is making a comeback with short film titled Cakewalk. Actress Hema Malini took to Twitter to launch the first look of the poster, where Deol is seen donning a chef’s uniform and hat, along with a pair of tongs.

Ram Kamal Mukherjee, who also penned down Hema Malini’s autobiography in 2005, has directed the short film.

Cakewalk is a story revolving around Deol’s character of a chef, portraying the professional and personal journey of women in the Indian society. The film will also star television actor Tarun Malhotra, Anindita Bose and Siddhartha Chatterjee.

(L-R) Tarun Malhotra, Anindita Bose, Siddhartha Chatterjee

Talking about the project, Deol revealed “the idea came to Ram Kamal’s mind after he interacted with a couple of working women from various walks of life. He has beautifully woven those incidents in his narrative.”

The actress was last seen on the popular TV show MTV Roadies in 2015.
