Ishaan Katter – Welcome to the movies

Actors are under tremendous pressure to maintain a certain image in public and grab the audience’s attention at every opportunity they get. Today, an actor’s success is measured by the number of followers on social media, red carpet appearances, and even their elite sense of fashion at airports and the gym.

But in the midst of all the glam and gloss, the art of acting has taken a backseat. Looking top-notch has somehow become more important than perfecting the craft and honing the right skills to create magic on camera.

Several actors step into Bollywood with dreams of becoming famous, but only a few manage to really steal the spotlight. Ishaan Katter is on his way to doing just that – and possibly for all the right reasons.

Katter started his journey quite early when he shared screen space Shahid Kapoor in Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi!

Still from Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi!

Now, its no news that Shahid Kapoor is Katter’s half-brother, which probably made the latter’s access to Bollywood much easier.

But that alone hasn’t necessarily given him a golden ticket to the industry.

Still from Beyond the Clouds

Katter appears to have closely observed his brother’s journey and is passionate about films, which earned him a launch with Iranian director Majid Majidi as a lead in Beyond the Clouds, which releases today.

He brings a certain innocence and vulnerability as a newbie in B-town, which is endearing and certainly a refreshing change.

We saw a lot of Khatter’s raw personality during the promotions of the film where he, on several occasions, expressed his love for cinema and his admiration for Majidi.

Talking about his experience as a debutant Katter said his primary take-away from working with the award-winning director was having faith, “[Majidi] said I know you want to be a good actor and a good artist, but don’t forget first and foremost we’re all human beings and what we do or say to each other counts the most… so strive towards being a good person and everything you want will come from that.”

The actor shows potential to be a great actor and has already won an award for best actor at the 5th International Bosphorous Film Festival for Beyond the Clouds.

He will soon make an official entry to mainstream Bollywood with Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Dharma Production along with Zee Studios. The much-awaiting film has been in the news for launching of two new faces, but we hope their craft remains the highlight in the grand scheme of things.

Taking a cue from his star brother whose been in the business for over a decade, Katter recently shared his wisdom on staying grounded, “If you want to be an extraordinary actor, you’ve got to be an ordinary person.”

We hope he lives by this mantra and proves his mettle. Can’t wait to see how his career progresses.

Kapil Sharma’s ex-manager, Preeti Simoes opens up about the his condition

Hours after news broke about Kapil Sharma’s Twitter rant where he threatened a journalist for publishing “negative stories” about him, the comedian filed a police complaint against his ex-manager Preeti Simoes, Neeti Simoes and the journalist. Sharma also tweeted a screenshot of the complaint, where he claims that the three have been working hand-in-glove to tarnish his reputation.

Kapil Sharma’s tweet with a screenshot of the police complaint

Reacting to the police complaint, Preeti said, “I am sure it’s not Kapil who is doing it. People around him have definitely manipulated him. He hasn’t even tweeted those posts. Someone else has his phone I am sure. It all feels so childish and stupid. Does he even know what is he talking about? He talks about giving out personal information. Ask him what is he referring to? I don’t even know the journalist well who he claims was paid by me. He says he is depressed, but I want to ask why? And why aren’t his friends and girlfriend Ginni Chatrath, who he ceremoniously introduced to the world, with him when he is depressed? When we were in a relationship, both personally and professionally, he was doing well. The downfall only came after we separated.” She has also shared her concern over Sharma’s mental health and thinks “he is suicidal.”

Preeti Simoes and Kapil Sharma

Preeti further opened up praising the comedian’s talent and the fact that she’s open to reconciling with him professionally. She added, “…his ego would not allow him to join hands with us, but me, Neeti and the entire team has always been open to the idea of getting back together to once again reign over television.”

While the collaboration between Sharma and Preeti may be on hold for a while, the later is all set to launch another one-of-a-kind comedy today, Dhan Dhana Dhan. The web show starring Sunil Grover and Shilpa Shinde will stream on Jio TV app.

#PPReview – Original or remake?

Bollywood has a tendency to start a trend and then repeat it one-too-many times till it becomes stale. Filmmakers often rate the success of a trend by how it’s received by the audience; If it receives a thumbs up once, it becomes a tried-and-tested formula for a hit.

While there are several trends that Bollywood has been following for quite some time, the latest (roughly started over two to three years ago) is the remake of old classic songs, specifically used for promotional purposes or item numbers in films.

The formula for this one – pick a popular old song, add few extra beats to it, a little bit of rap, and a splash of synchronized choreography with lots glitter and gloss!

Now, which Bollywood fan doesn’t love listening to old songs; It’s nostalgic and the remixed versions make an amazing playlist at parties and weddings. While some remakes are certainly good – Tamma Tamma Again from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Kala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho (though not a classic), Hungama Hogaya from Queen … some are just trying too hard.

The latest remake on the block – Ek Do Teen from Baaghi 2.

There’s no doubt that the artists put in a lot of effort to recreate the magic. But something is definitely feels amiss.

Alka Yagnik, Singer

Singer Alka Yagnik, who sung the original track starring Madhuri Dixit, reacted to its new version, “It’s no match to the original… It wasn’t required.” during an interview with Radio Nasha. She added, “Even though [the original] Ek Do Teen was an item number [in Tezaab], there was a certain innocence and vulnerability present both in the song, and on Madhuri’s face. Aap koi bhi scene dekh lein, uss gane mein kuch bhi vulgar nahi hai (Pick any scene from the song, and you’ll not find anything vulgar). It was not at all seductive either! I don’t think the new version will have the same thing.”

What do you think? Is it time for this fad to fade?

Let us know in the comments.
